Myrtle Beach

We took our very first vacation as a family last weekend to Myrtle Beach and it was so much fun!! Uncle Mike had a super nice room for us totally free, right on the beach and I mean right on the beach. It was such a cool resort. Here's the view from our room on the 14th floor.

My mom and dad had come to visit us here in North Carolina on Tuesday so they drove down to the Beach and spent a couple of hours there. It was fun but I wish my mom could have stayed longer! Oh and I should mention that Ty did great on the 2 and a half hour car ride. He slept most of the way there even with my father having issues controlling the volume of his voice. Patrick came later that day after work and met us there. I think the best time I had there the whole time was that night after we fed Ty, we went down to the beach and stopped off first at the bar for a cocktail. I sat on the beach with the cool sea breeze enjoying my drink as Patrick chased Ty around. It doesn’t get much better then that. I love my family.

The next day Ty and I went to the beach early before it was too hot or too crowded. It was fun but very difficult. Trying to take a baby and all the gear you need for the beach then trying to watch a very mobile baby run around near water is not as easy as it seems. I will be like those teen moms on 16 and Pregnant and say “it was a lot harder then I thought it was going to be.” Um duh. It was worth it though because Ty had a lot of fun. After the beach we made a quick stop at one of the baby pools to wash off all the sand like a bunch of p dubs.

Oh and I should also mention that Ty would illicit crowds of women everywhere we went because of his cuteness.  There are few things in this world cuter then my child wearing his beachwear. He was to die for!!

After that we met back up with Patrick and went to a touristy place with a lot of shops called Barefoot Landing (I think) and we had a yummy lunch. Ty leaked through his pants and I didn’t realize it was as bad as it was until I started taking pictures of him. So we went back to the room changed Ty and tried to get him to nap, which he would not but hey we were on vacation so I didn’t care. We went out to eat with Mike and had sushi. It was the only time we got to spend with Mike so that was kind of disappointing but its ok since we’re going back July 4th.

After dinner we went back to the beach to try and recapture the magic of the night before but it didn’t quite happen that way since we had a pretty tired baby but I needed more pictures so we stayed down there long enough to get a few good ones.

I love the beach!!

You're 1 Year Old

So I've been meaning to write a letter to Ty for his first birthday but have been putting it off. Well actually not really putting it off but more not having the time to sit down and write it because I'm always sleeping in my free time because Ty still won't sleep through the night. But I digress...

Dear Ty,
I can't believe that you are one year old. I've been tough, I've been strong I have not broken down about you not being a baby I have not been sad but its all a front. I miss my baby! I seriously can't believe you have been in my life for a whole year. It gets on my nerves when other moms talk about their babies growing up so fast and blah, blah, blah. I didn't think I'd be that mom who was all "oh my baby is growing up too fast, woe is me what am I going to do?!?" But I get it now. I barely even remember you being a baby. I think its because most of your babyhood I was so sleep deprived my brain didn't function properly so I was in a haze for most of it. I think this is God's way of making women want to have more babies. They're so sleep deprived to remember any of the hard times and only remember the good memories so once their babies are old enough, all they want in another one.
**Look how tired I look in this picture**

You grew up so fast. You are an old soul, you were like me and born grown up. Couple that with you sitting alone, crawling, walking and now talking so early it seems like I hardly had a baby at all. I remember bringing you home for the first time and I remember the sleepless nights (ha I remember them so well because I still have them) and I remember having to put you in the Baby Bjorn and vacuuming the floor just to get you to sleep. Your first 4th of July I was at home alone watching the New York City firework show, doing deep lounges to the background music trying to put you to sleep.  I remember walking at the park for the first time with you and the dogs. You were tiny! I put you in the bjorn and you had a little hat on and you slept the entire length of the park. I remember every day of that summer rocking you to sleep for every one of your naps and holding you for the entire length of them because I just didn't want to put you down. I remember giving you your first bath and wrapping you up in your (at the time) huge duck towel.

You still need me to rock you to sleep at night and I secretly love that. Sometimes I cry thinking that one day you won't need me to rock you and you won't need me to put you to sleep. It breaks my heart. Now don't get me wrong I love watching you grow up. I love watching your personality develop I love watching you learn new things and watching you enjoy life but my Lord its going so freaking fast! A quote that oma once told me always comes to mind "the days are long but the years are short" and I have never heard of anything more accurate about you growing up.

So to my sweet baby boy I love you more then you will ever know or until you have a child of your own. You make me and your father better people just for knowing you and we thank you for being such a good son. I love you!

Swimming

The other day at the pool a woman there said Ty looked like a walking ad for Ralph Lauren. I swear everyone tells me that Ty needs to model. I've started contacting modeling agencies but since we don't live in NY, LA or Chicago it may be difficult to actually get any work. When we left the pool, Ty waved to this same lady and she said "you were just the ray of light in my day today, the best thing that happened was I got to watch you play." Wow Ty sure does know how to work a crowd.

Also, so excited about this, Ty has started keeping hats on. Yay now I can finally buy him a fedora.

Tonka Ty

A couple of nights ago Patrick took Ty to get his first Tonka Truck at the Walmart. Ty has liked trucks for a while now but he has been playing with the neighbors huge Tonka every time we go outside (the kid left it outside and is never home so yes I let my child just help himself to someone elses toys).

Look at Ty's farmer tan here. He's just like his dad. He will always look like he's got on a shirt with his tan lower arms and super white upper arms. Hahaha

Oh and a super cute thing Ty did the other day right before going to bed he waved to his daddy and said "night night dad" so cute and a very impressive string of words.

Farmer's Market

Today we accidentally happened upon a farmers market. We were actually just going to a new park I found the other day when we were shopping downtown and the framers market was being held across the street. It was kind of exciting because we have been talking about going to one ever since we got here.

It was a really cool one too. Lots of fruits and vegetables and there was even a cute little trio of a guitar, violin and banjo (I really want to learn banjo so I was excited to see one there!) and Ty was obsessed with them. He stood there forever watching them and dancing.

There were a ton of dogs there so Ty got to pet a lot of dogs which he was excited about and the best thing about it was there wasn't a bunch of hippie weirdos there like there are in Austin just nice normal people buying and selling produce and using plastic bags instead of those stupid damn reusable shopping bags. Anyway after the market we let Ty play on the playground and run on the tennis court. Patrick took most of these pictures (I thinks he's becoming addicted to my new camera).

Tomorrow we're cooking out again at the park and we're going to feed the ducks. Good times. Oh yeah one more thing Ty can do an exact imitation of Cookie Monster he says "yum yum yum yum" in cookie's growly voice. It is high-larious.

Pool Opened

We have been dying for the pool to open ever since we got here since they actually close the pool here for seasons. Today was the big day, it finally opened. I have been shopping for a week to get ready for this momentous event. Between my swimsuit, a swim bag, swim toys, swim towels, swim diapers it required quite a few trips to the various shops in Southern Pines. So you can imagine my excitement when I woke up this morning all ready to kick off the swimming pool season. I got Ty dressed, I reluctantly got myself dressed and we headed out to the pool. 10 minutes after we were there huge black clouds rolled in and the thunder started. Of Course. So we had to pack up all of our stuff and come home. I was so irritated. On the plus side Ty seemed to like being in the water so thats good. At least I know now we can go back and maybe spend some actual time in the water. Seriously I prepared for this trip to the pool like Jesus was coming to stay with us.

Random Story Updates

Here is Ty's last picture with his fancy little sign that I made. No Payton in the picture since she's not here in North Carolina with us and no clothes just because it was Ty's birthday and I decided to let him roam the house ONLY (never ever take a naked baby in public. Gross)in his birthday suit. Left the diaper on as he thinks its hilarious to pee on the floor now as soon as that diaper comes off.
Oh and he is also sitting in the trash chair. He loves that stupid thing so I guess we're keeping it.

Here is Ty having his first milkshake ever from DQ. WHile we were in DQ ordering it, I let him walk around and he went over to their huge poster they had of all the ice cream treats they had and he kept beating it saying "yummmmm!" Hello where do I sign to get this kid in a DQ commercial?!?!

And here we were on a Sunday, at a public park, cooking out like a bunch of Mexicans. We've started a tradition now at the DeWilde house that we like to call Champagne Sundays where we drink a bottle of champagne before lunch. Its fun and we decided to do it at the park on this particular occassion.

I let Ty get nice and dirty and play in the water. It reminded me of all those pictures you always would see of the old days when black people would play in the fire hydrants (ha! old days, I still see them frolicking around in city water). So to sum it up we cooked out at the park like a bunch of mexicans, drank cheap champagne before noon like a bunch of P-dubs and let our child play in public water like a bunch of blacks. What a good day.
